I was born in Rio de Janeiro but
have lived most of my life in the United States.
Consequently, my work often reflects the conflict between the Brazilian
and the American culture: the sensual and the pragmatic; the myth of
self-
determination
and the myth of El Dorado. I currently live in San Francisco with my
husband, Lewis
Campbell, director of Multi-Ethnic
Theatre. I teach English at Skyline College in
San Bruno, CA.

work has appeared in numerous publications including Los Angeles
Times, Américas, Boston Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, Greensboro Review, Cream

Contemporary
Southern California Literature (Bilingual Press)
and Best
American Poetry 1992. I received a grant from the Stanford
University's Center
of Latin American
Studies to research Literatura de
Cordel. For more information on
